Performing Arts
The Performing Arts are committed to providing a program that develops informed and creative uses of a range of theatre and performance skills, stemming from the areas of creating and making, exploring and responding, understanding the social and cultural contexts and fostering enjoyment in the use of these skills.
In our program, we aim for students to:
- Develop a positive self-image
- Create and appreciate performances
- Develop organisational and collaborative skills
- Enhance public performance skills and manipulate elements of technology and stage craft
- Enjoy personal satisfaction through aspiring to excellence in artistic achievement
Year 7
Students study Music and engage in playing musical instruments in a band format, with an emphasis on Instruments of an Orchestra. They create their own songs using music technology, and traditional instruments.
Year 8
Students study Drama and engage in playmaking, stagecraft, performance and theatre history.
Year 9
Students may select one or more semester based electives from:
- Music
- Drama
Year 10
Students may select one or more semester based electives from:
- Music
- Drama
- Theatre Studies
Years 11 and 12
Students may select elective VCE studies from the following:
- VCE Theatre Studies
- VCE VET Music (Performance)
Extra–Curricula activities in the Performing Arts
Students at Mary MacKillop College can enjoy a wide variety of extra Performing arts ensembles on top of the classes if they wish. These include:Choirs, Bands and private instrument lessons.
Visual Arts
Visual Arts is committed to providing a program to develop skills which enable expression and communication through experience, response and interpretation of visual forms.
Visual Arts aims to provide programs which encourage students:
- to develop the intellectual and expressive potential of the student through aural, spatial, kinaesthetic, interpersonal and visual experiences
- to explore how different social and cultural groups engage in and convey meaning through their art
- to develop skills and techniques through exploration and development of ideas using a broad range of materials and media
- to gain confidence in art criticism and aesthetics through describing, analysing, interpreting and evaluating their own and other art works
The opportunity to study the Visual Arts is available from Years 7 to 12.
Years 7 and 8
Students complete compulsory studies in the Visual Arts; Art and Visual Communication Design.
Year 9
Students may select one or more semester-based electives from:
- Art
- Media Arts (Photography)
- Visual Communication Design
Year 10
Students may select one or more semester-based electives from:
- Art
- Media
- Visual Communication Design
Years 11 and 12
Students may select one or more VCE elective studies from:
- VCE Art Creative Practice
- VCE Media
